30% Ruling To Be Changed From 8 To 5 Years

By 26 april 2018 december 30th, 2018 Career

At BGB, we think it is important to inform you about the measurements our government is planning on taking regarding the 30% ruling. We hereby try to inform you accordingly.

What will change?

The only real change that has been proposed in the government agreement of 2017 and now seems to become reality as of January 1, 2019, is that the total amount of years that expats are entitled to the 30% ruling will be brought down from 8 to 5 years.

Also, people that are already in possesion of the 30% ruling will face a 3-year cut on the total amount of years.

The probability of becoming reality

In the past, the 30% ruling was already brought down from 10 to 8 years. In that specific case, the already existing rulings were not changed, so people who received the 10-year ruling were not cut on their total amount.

We expect the 30% ruling to go down from 8 to 5 years, but find it unreasonable to cut the already existing rulings. Although this is only an assumption from our side, we expect the 30% ruling to stay the same for everyone already in possession of an 8-year ruling.

What to do?

At this point, we cannot do much but wait. As soon as the government goes forward and decides to make it a new law, we will inform you accordingly. Until that time, we cannot be certain about which changes will be applied, and how.

Should you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

The BGB team
